About the Seminar

The ECE Industry Interaction Seminar (IIS@ECE) is an initiative of the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to encourage interaction between the vibrant tech industry of Bangalore and the researchers at the IISc. The city of Bangalore, revered as the tech capital of India, has seen unprecedented growth in tech startups and tech development centers. The IISc, located at the heart of Bangalore, is one of the oldest technical institutes of India, with a long standing tradition of excellence in research and innovation. IIS@ECE provides a forum for an informal interaction between the researchers of IISc and the technology developers of Bangalore. Every month a distinguished speaker from the industry will visit the ECE department and present a technical problem that interests their company. This will be followed by a discussion with the audience, a student roundtable, and of course, coffee in the ECE hut. We invite everyone to come and share ideas or a cup of coffee with the tech leaders of Bangalore in the lush green ECE department!

Systems R&D in Tech Start-ups: Opportunities and Challenges

What? In a tech start-up, once the vision has been conceived, system modeling and performance analysis of candidate algorithms and methods are carried out. However, simulations go through constant changes at every stage of the design and development process. A change in the later stages of development is often expensive and time consuming. About the Speaker
Ramu Srinivasaiah is the Founder and the Director of Lekha Wireless. He comes with 18 years of experience in wired and Wireless communication and has expertise in voice band modems, fax, ADSL modems, WiMAX and LTE technologies. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur Ramu Srinivasaiah has worked for Encore software, an Indian startup company, Centillium communication, a US based semiconductor company, Navini Networks, a US based OEM company and Cisco Systems. His current responsibilities at Lekha Wireless include businesses development, driving innovation, customer interaction, building and managing competent engineering teams and delivery of technology products.

About the Company
Lekha Wireless is a self-funded Indian startup. It is a company with technology focus and has registered growth year after year. They are team of more than 60 engineers with highly competent engineering skills ranging from hardware to software and functionally ranging from RF to networks. Lekha has licensed its data link and embedded technology to OEMs and has developed a vault of turn key solutions and IPs over years. The company is in the process of taking these turnkey solutions to devices which meets the compliance requirements of end users. Lekha's ACT link solution is one such initiative which is IP based point to point and point to multi point COFDM link. Lekha has built these modems with algorithms that can take care of deployment challenges which are completely different from typical commercial networks. It has seen great traction from the defense R &D and end user communities. Also, Lekha has developed a Test and Measurement product called WaveGuru for LTE technology which it is delivering to customers.
The next generation ACT link will be based on LTE technology and the company's R& D is working towards it.

About the Speakers
Arun Rajagopalan is the Director of Data Science at Evive Health. Prior to this, he was the Director of Research at Deep Value, an US based algorithmic trading firm. He has focused on data science in different domains from his graduate school days - materials informatics, crystallographic databases, high frequency equity market data, and now health care.
Arun has a B.Tech. in Metallurgy from IIT Madras, India and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA. He was a guest researcher at National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland as part of his post-doctoral research.

Raghu Venkat oversees Evive Health's R&D centre and has over 16 years of consulting experience. He primarily programmed in the Real time applications with a focus on delivering testable software.
Throughout his career, Raghu Venkat has served as an Advisor / Technical Consultant to large Fortune 500 companies, Stock exchanges (CME, CBOE) & insurance industry particularly related to real time computing.

Wi-Fi: A practitioner’s perspective

About the Speaker
Pravin Bhagwat is an entrepreneur and a wireless security researcher. He is Co-founder and CTO of Mojo Networks -- a provider of highly scalable and secure cloud-managed Wi-Fi solutions. Mojo Networks has built a world class engineering team in Pune which is successfully launching ‘first-of-its-kind’ Cloud managed Wi-Fi products in the global market.
Prior to starting his entrepreneurial career, Pravin was a lead researcher at AT& T Research and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, New York where he was a member of MobileIP, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth research teams. He also served as a visiting faculty member at computer science department, IIT Kanpur. Pravin also has 16 patents to his credit.
For the past three years, Pravin has also been experimenting with a couple of non-tech ideas, such as leading a community level green/recycling initiative, jumpstarting an eco-restoration project near Pune and making a feature film length documentary. Pravin has B.Tech. in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, India and MS/PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA.

About the Speaker
As the CTO of Zoomcar, Amit built the whole platform from scratch including the inventory system, the new website and native mobile apps for android and iphone within the first year. Right now he is involved with scaling the team and building processes to leverage technology for ensuring smooth operations and consistent user experience. Prior to joining Zoomcar, Amit co-founded, one of the leading discount coupon service on the internet in India. At, Amit built the whole platform grounds-up and scaled it to 3 million average monthly visitors and 1 million registered users, while restricting to a limited budget. Amit is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
